| Notes | A manuscript fragment of a Robin Hood poem. At the bottom of the first page is a more recent manuscript note: "This is a fragment of the same poem on Robin Hood which is preserved in an unique MS. of the public library of Cambridge of the reign of Ed. II., and which is printed at the end of the last edition of Ritson's Robin Hood. See also. Gents. Mag. for Jan. 1837. Tho Wright." In this note, "same" is stricken, and "Ed. II." is amended in pencil to read "Henry the Sixth." The article referenced in The Gentleman's Magazine is "On the Popular Cycle of the Robin Hood Ballads," pp. 17-28. This item is not a ballad, but is archived in EBBA because it is included in the important Bagford collection of ballads. |
