IT's now since I lay down before, that foolish Fort of Heart, Time strangely spent a Year and more, yet still I play'd my part; Made my approaches to her hands, and to her Lips did rise. And did already understand, the language of her eyes. Proceeding on with no less Art, my tongue was Ingenier, Thinking to undermind her heart, by whispering in her Ear, But when that fail'd, then I brought down, Great Cannon, Oaths and Shot; Ten Thousand, Thousand in the Town, but yet it yeilded not. Then I resolved to starve the place, by cutting off all Kisses, Praising and Gazing in her Face, and all such little blisses, To drive her out, and from her strength, I drive all batteries in; And made myself to ly at length, as if no Siege had been: When I had done what Man could do, and thought the place my own; The Enemy lay quiet too, and smil'd at what was done, I sent to know from whence or where, such hopes were of Relief, A Spy informed Honour was there, and did command in cheif. March, march, quoth I, the word straight gave let's lose no time but live her, This Giant upon Air will live, and hold us out for ever. To such a place our Camp remove as will no Seige abide, I hate a fool that starves my love. only to feed her pride.
