NEH3: Collections and Resources Grant Proposal (for 2010-2012)

The NEH followed its second grant to EBBA with a third award of $315,000 to begin digitizing and archiving the Euing Ballad Archive at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and the Huntington Ballad Archive of pre-1701 ballads at the Huntington Library, Pasadena, over the two year period of 2010-2012.

Note regarding the award proposal reproduced below: originally EBBA proposed that it continue archiving British Library broadside ballad collections. However, due to unexpected constraints on the British Library’s budget and time, it was mutually agreed to shift the planned focus of EBBA's next phase of work. The NEH has graciously granted EBBA permission to archive instead the gorgeous seventeenth-century black-letter collection of Euing ballads held at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, as well as the multifarious pre-1701 ballads held at the Huntington Library, Pasadena. The latter ballads share many features with the British Library collections we originally intended to archive, and indeed, the Huntington holds the other half of the British Library’s sixteenth-century Huth ballads (known at the Huntington as the Britwell Ballads) as well as a volume of Luttrell ballads (under the name of the Bindley volume).
